For testing concrete with dense structure and the Brinell hardness of metals
The Impact Hardness Tester HPS operates dynamically. The ball impression is produced by an impact. The impact work is stored in a spring. The device is pressed against the sample by hand and the spring compressed. After reaching the setpoint, the hammer is released and leaves a permanent impression in the sample via a ball. The impression is measured with the aid of a measuring magnifier.
The ball impact method permits direct testing of concrete and provides a large number of measurement values with little effort without destroying the test specimen. Here the cube compressive strength of the concrete is estimated from the diameter of the ball impressions made in the concrete specimen to be tested.
The guidelines for undertaking this test are specified in DIN 1048 Part 2. The device is also used to test metal materials, in particular for testing larger workpieces. The values measured are only comparative figures that can, however, be related to Brinell hardness using conversion graphs.
